Premier League: The biggest transfers that could happen this summer
There are few things able to excite football fans as much as a good transfer rumour, and as the summer window gets ever-closer to being cracked wide open, there’s plenty going on in the gossip mill.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at four possible moves that could light up the Premier League ahead of the 2021/22 season. Read on to find out more!
Jadon Sancho to Manchester United
It’s been well documented that Manchester United have been in hot pursuit of Jadon Sancho for the last couple of seasons now, and this could be the summer that the Red Devils finally get their man.
The 21-year-old, who is currently on international duty at Euro 2020 with England, scored eight times and assisted a further 11 goals for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and he certainly won’t come cheap, with the German side reportedly placing an £86m price tag on the winger — around £20m more than Manchester United’s recently rejected offer.
With United started to challenge more seriously toward the top of the Premier League for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, players like Sancho will be a welcome addition to Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba to Paris Saint-Germain
It wouldn’t be a summer transfer window without speculation regarding Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford, would it? The French midfielder, who will be hoping to add a European Championship winners’ medal to his collection at Euro 2020, only has one year remaining on his contract at Manchester United, and if the best football odds are to be believed, he could be off to Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season.
Fuel was added to the fire recently when Pogba jokingly interrupted Kingsley Coman and PSG centre-back Presnel Kimpembe during a press conference, with his French teammates then starting to quiz the 28-year-old on the rumours.
“We’re talking about Paris”, Kimpembe said, before Coman added “Yeah, you’re Parisian aren’t you?” With Pogba trying his best to shrug off his teammates’ advances, Kimpembe continued “the transfer window is soon” with Coman once again butting in with “Nasser, any contact?” At which point, Pogba made himself scarce.
Erling Håland to Chelsea
With Chelsea left off Erling Håland’s reported six-club list, which included the Manchester sides, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, early in the year, it’s now believed that the goal-scoring machine is open to a move to Stamford Bridge after all.
Given Håland’s level of quality, it’s no surprise that the feeling is mutual and the Champions League winners appear to be the only club seriously interested in pursuing the striker’s signature, which could end up costing Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich a cool £150m.
It goes without saying that after their struggles going forward last season, Chelsea need more firepower in attack, and with Thomas Tuchel claiming almost immediately after the Blues lifted the Champions League that he wants to make two or three signings this summer, Chelsea fans will certainly to be hoping Håland is one of them.
Harry Kane to Manchester City
With Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur’s ambitions clearly not aligned, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the England captain departs from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It will be weird to see the 27-year-old pull on a different Premier League club’s jersey given that he has been a stalwart for the north London side for the last seven or eight years. However, he has made it clear for some time now that he wants to win trophies and take his career up a notch, and where better to do that than at serial winners Manchester City, who just happen to be on the hunt for a new No.9.
