Interesting Betting Tips for the Championship in 2019-20
The unpredictability of the Championship ensures that it remains a lucrative betting option for punters every season, we often include Championship teams in our free football tips. The betting for promotion and relegation dominate the thoughts of punters before the start of the season, but there are always teams that come out of nowhere to fight for promotion.
For instance, Norwich City last season were better priced to be relegated rather than promoted, and the same with Huddersfield Town in their promotion season. So, for instance, if there is importance in stats for NFL wagering, for Championship stats do not always prove right and surprises happen every season.
Punters must study all the different elements that can play a part in a potential push for the Premier League and keep up to date with all the latest transfer news of the summer before placing their bet. Teams such as Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion will be among the favourites to be promoted next season, but could there be more value elsewhere in the market?
Promotion
Leeds United’s ability to keep hold of Marcelo Bielsa could prove pivotal in their ambitions of a return to the Premier League after 15 years in the Championship. Meanwhile, the signing of Helder Costa from Wolves could be an inspired one. The winger played a pivotal role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2017-18 but failed to transition to a crucial player for the team in the top-flight. The Whites are currently priced at the 7/4 favourites for promotion with most bookmakers, and they have a solid chance.
Meanwhile, relegated duo Cardiff City and Fulham are also among the leading contenders as they return to the Championship. Both clubs endured contrasting experiences in the Premier League, with Cardiff lamenting bad luck and Fulham’s inability to keep a clean sheet being their downfall.
The Bluebirds will start the season will Neil Warnock at the helm, and that is crucial judging by his past experiences at achieving promotion. Fulham have taken more of a gamble by taking a chance on Scott Parker. However, the quality that the South London side has in their ranks means that they will have every chance of a quick return to the top-flight if they improve their defensive record.
Nottingham Forest are enjoying a great summer in the transfer market and have already brought in Benfica duo Alfa Semedo and Yuri Ribeiro. Along with the exciting pair they have also brought in Manchester City goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, and experienced Championship players such as Sammy Ameobi and Albert Adomah. If they start the season strongly, then the price of 5/1 to be promoted with some bookmakers could be the offer of the season.
Relegation
It could be another long season for Reading, Millwall and Queens Park Rangers. The trio escaped the drop last season but have failed to strengthen their squad to the extent to see them move away from a potential relegation dogfight. The other favourites for relegation include Barnsley and Charlton Athletic; who were promoted from League One in the previous season. The latter of the two has been able to keep hold of their influential manager Lee Bowyer, but fans displeasure at the owners at the Valley always means that they have the ability to self-implode.
Luton Town have been a remarkable success story over recent seasons, and their League One win last season would hold them in good stead for a crack at the Championship. It’s unlikely that they will be involved in a relegation fight. Birmingham City will be nervously looking over their shoulders after the departure of Garry Monk has left the club in disarray.
They do appear to be a club in free-fall, and the loss of their star striker Che Adams, who moved to Southampton, also won’t help their case. They are currently valued at 7/2 with various bookmakers, and that could be an interesting choice for punters.
Punters should monitor the situations of clubs as this was an overwhelming reason for the relegations of Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers last season. West Bromwich Albion are an interesting proposition under the stewardship of Slaven Bilic. The owners haven’t been popular at the Hawthorns, and they have already expressed that the club will not be able to pay big wages to fight for new players.
This means that they have lost last season’s top scorer Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez already this summer and could face the prospect of starting the season with Hal Hobson-Kanu as the solitary forward player. Bilic’s inexperience at this level could also prove crucial as the Championship is different from any other league in the world.
The Baggies are currently valued at 20/1 with some bookmakers for the drop, which could be an interesting punt for some gamblers. Although it is unlikely, it should not be ruled out.
