The Five Most Famous Celtic Fans
The Five Most Famous Celtic Fans
Over the last few years, Celtic have proven unbeatable on the domestic front. And we reckon this is largely down to the fact that the club has so many loyal fans. Let’s face it: without us, they’d be nothing. With this in mind, it stands to reason that we count many famous faces among our ranks. Here’s a list of five of the best-known Celtic fans…
Billy Connolly
An ardent Hoops supporter, Glaswegian funny man Billy Connolly’s affiliations to Celtic run deep. As well as the fact it’s his local team, Big Yin says he loves Celtic because the players “don’ let go. They never know when they are beaten.” Connolly also says his Dad was disappointed when the younger Connolly didn’t play for Celtic, so green and white is obviously in his blood.
Rod Stewart
While born in London, singer Rod Stewart has never hidden his Scottish heritage, or his love for Celtic. Robbie Keane, who played for Celtic on loan in 2010, says a Celtic crest adorns a five-a-side football pitch at Stewart’s Los Angeles mansion, while the former Faces frontman also works out in a Hoops-themed gym.
Stewart’s love of Celtic stretches back to the 1970s when he became friends with club legends Kenny Dalglish and Jimmy Johnstone. The singer also co-opened the North Stand at Celtic Park with Fergus McCann and Tommy Burns in 1995.
Sean Connery
While some say Sean Connery is the luckiest man on Earth for his massive winnings on the roulette table, Celtic fans have much harsher words to describe the former James Bond actor. Why? Because Connery did the unthinkable and changed allegiance from Celtic to Rangers. He says the reason for this is that he once phoned the club for tickets to the Old Firm derby and McCann refused.
Unsurprisingly, Connery says he gets a hard time from Hoops fans when he visits Scotland – in fact, some spit on him!
Michelle Keegan
Due to her busy schedule, Michelle Keegan doesn’t get to visit Celtic Park as much as she would like. The 30-year-old former Coronation Street star nonetheless promises her Celtic-loving Dad and Grandad that she’ll do her best to visit Paradise with them whenever she can.
Snoop Dogg
Back in 2012, rapper Snoop Dogg declared his desire to buy Celtic, promising that he’d convince his friend David Beckham into a Hoops shirt if his bid was successful. The LA rapper’s support for Celtic goes back to when he watched the Parkhead club beat Barcelona during a 2012 Champions League match. While some of us doubt whether his passion for the Hoops is real, Snoop has frequently been seen wearing one of our jerseys.
